Who Is The Wembley Point Woman?

On October 29, 2004, a young woman went to the 21st floor of Wembley Point in London, opened a window, and jumped out. She has never been identified.

Wembley Point, now known as WEM Tower London, is a triangular tower block, 21 storeys tall. It is now residential, with 439 apartments, but in 2004 it was an office building.

On October 29, 2004, just before 9 am, a woman entered Wembley Point and got in the lift. Other people in the lift at the time recalled that she appeared to be very distressed. She was dressed in a claret crew neck with a black polo underneath, and a maroon bomber jacket. She had tights on underneath her black trousers and was wearing a pair of black sketchers shoes. The woman was also wearing a silver watch, and two silver rings, one with a shell which is now thought to be a cowrie shell ring which is linked to fertility. She was also carrying a plastic carrier bag and a large oil painting.

Up on the 21st floor was a cafe, like a workplace canteen, something you wouldn’t be aware of unless you already knew the building. Witnesses say the woman walked confidently through the building too, which suggests that she may have had a job there, possibly as a contractor or a cleaner.

In the cafe, the woman bought a coffee. She smoked a cigarette from an almost empty pack-of-10 Marlboros and read a Guardian newspaper dated 29/10.2004 which is thought to have been bought from the cafe. The woman then climbed onto the table, opened the window, and jumped out.

Just after 9am, police retrieved the woman’s body from the river below. She had nothing on her to identify her; no wallet, phone or keys.

On the table inside the cafe at Wembley Point, she left behind a seven-day bus pass, purchased on Tuesday 26, October (three days prior). It was purchased at 7:03 am on Seven Sisters Road in North-East London, more than 10 miles away. She also left the oil painting, £5.20 in cash, the newspaper, the pack of cigarettes, and a black carrier bag with the letters ‘CPNY’.

After her death, a witness came forward and said he had spoken to her a few weeks prior and that she had been distressed over her boyfriend’s health.

There has been suggestion from the public that she may have been connected to the Chestnuts Arts & Community Centre.

The woman was black, between 5ft 1” and 5ft 3”, and aged between 20-40 years old.

It has been over 20 years, but the woman still hasn’t been identified. She has since been buried in a common grave with no name.
