Damian Chlywka: The Body in the Well

On November 15, 2013, gardeners working at a home on Audley Drive in Worlingham, Surrey, England, found human remains wrapped in blue plastic tarp, in a seven-foot well.

The body was later identified as 32-year-old Damian Chlywka. Investigators believe his body had been there for over 2 years.

Damian Chlywka was born in Poland in 1981. He came to the UK in 2008. It is thought he was going to a friend’s house to help them decorate their house before he went missing.

Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons said:

“Damian had lived at various addresses across London including two known to be in the Croydon area.

“At one point he had lived at 11A Audley Road. Our focus now is to build up a fuller picture of Damian’s life in the UK.

“We have given the difficult and heart-breaking news to his family who are distraught that this has happened to their loved one.

“I am appealing to anyone who knew or previously worked with him to contact the police and help us to piece together a picture of Damian’s life and how it came to end in these distressing conditions.”

A post-mortem examination did not provide a cause of death but police say Damian Chlywka suffered injuries consistent with an assault prior to being put in the well.

Two men aged 33 and 41 have since been arrested and bailed on suspicion of murder.

Seven men aged between 21 and 27 were also arrested but later released on bail.
